As I ever promised before, a lite version of SLAMPP is now available for public download. It contains only essential server applications and other tools that will support your web development work. To keep SLAMPPLite small and make it easy to update, I’ve chosen to include a ready made solution called XAMPP, developed by nice people at Apache Friends. One of its founder, Kai ‘Oswald’ Seidler, has let me know that I may include XAMPP to this release. Thanks Oswald for your warm welcome. I really appreciate that. 🙂
What you will see in SLAMPPLite shall give you an idea how the next ‘big’ SLAMPP would look like, although not all features are shown. A new linux kernel 2.6.14.3 has been used. To compile all things into a live CD, I also updated the linux live scripts which will be available for you to use as well. You can use it to edit or remaster SLAMPPLite if you have intention to do so in the future. Furthermore, one of the benefits having XAMPP on board is that you will always be updated with the latest development of softwares included in SLAMPPLite. So, you don’t have to be worried about doing it yourself.
I was planning to re-compile SLAMPPLite each time a new version of XAMPP is released. But as I realize that I myself don’t have much time to do this work and at the same time don’t want you to be upset, I promise to make a new release every two months. How does it sound to you? 🙂 I hope you don’t mind, will you?
Alright, all that being said, without further delay you can get SLAMPPLite through this link:

One happy news for us, the development of SLAMPPLite is now supported by SourceForge.net. Something that the standard SLAMPP actually needs. But due to some reasons SF.net has rejected my application, so temporary we have to be self-sufficient in distributing the standard SLAMPP. So far everything just goes well. Nothing to complain. Thanks to all parties that show their support to this project. Without you guys, SLAMPP will not be growing like this and gaining its popularity.
Enjoy SLAMPPLite!
Update (Dec 09, 2005):
– The Linux live scripts that have been used to compile SLAMPPLite 1.0 are now available for download.
– DistroWatch.com has mentioned SLAMPPLite on its frontpage today. Read the news over here. Thanks Ladislav. 🙂
Congratulation to you. I wish I can build my own distribution too. 😀
