Akismet

Recently Matt has been working on a tool that will help WordPress bloggers from comment and trackback spams. The tool is called Akismet and it is a web service. So you don’t need to do anything except uploading Akismet into your wp-content/plugins directory and let Akismet does the real work for your weblog. Unfortunately you must have the WordPress.com API to activate the service. But don’t worry, as you already know you can get a WordPress.com account if you use Flock. Thus, get in one over here.

Tonight I just got a good news from Usayd Younis. He lets me know that random Quranic verse plugin for WordPress is already available for public use. This plugin utilizes the Islamic service provided by Mukmin.info and displays the Quranic verse on your website. You can get more information about this and download the plugin on this page.

WordPress Plugin: Random Hadith Quotation

A great news for WordPress users who want to use my free Random Hadith Quotation service.

At this moment, a simple plugin has been developed by Usayd Younis which utilizes the original code provided for Random Hadith. Now, you can put the hadith on any place you like as long as it is still under the WP system.

Upgrade to WP 1.5 Strayhorn (2)

It’s been a while after I upgraded this weblog to WP 1.5. So far nothing to complain, though. I’m quite happy with the features this software offers me. :) As I said before in the previous post, this time I would like to give you some information about how I did the upgrade. I know everyone can get this kind of information everywhere on the internet. Just use Google and enter some keywords, voila! You’ve got the results. But, that’s not the point why I’m writing here. I do this because I’d like to keep a documentation for myself about things that happened on this site and perhaps it will be also useful for you as well. Upgrade to WP 1.5 Strayhorn (1)

I finally upgraded my blogging tool to the latest stable version of WordPress today. My first impression after successful upgrade was this software really rocks, man! I especially love the way it manages the administration section and above all it has a lot of new features, like creating pages and sub-pages for static display and the theme system that separates theme files into their functionality. With some luck, if you are a creative person, you can build a whole website using WordPress as a simple CMS software. There is no limit for that. I think the way WP goes today is already in good path and it becomes a potential powerful blogging tool in the future. We’ll see. :)

I will tell you more about the way I did the upgrade and which plugins I use to enhance this weblog in the next post. So, please come back again later. :)

Seperti biasanya kegiatan yang pertama kali sering saya lakukan di akhir pekan adalah menjelajah sejumlah weblog yang diasuh oleh para pakar dan ahli di bidang web design dan development, baik dalam maupun luar negeri. Adapun tujuan utama saya dari kebiasaan ini adalah untuk mengejar ketertinggalan saya dan memperluas wawasan saya di bidang-bidang tersebut. Acap kali setelah membaca tulisan-tulisan yang terdapat di weblog-weblog yang dimaksud, saya menjadi tertantang untuk mencoba dan mempraktikkannya. Salah satu di antaranya adalah tulisan berikut, Livesearch.

Yang menjadi pusat perhatian saya ketika mencoba feature ini adalah diberikannya kemudahan kepada pengguna untuk segera memperoleh hasil yang dicari tanpa harus meninggalkan halaman yang tengah dikunjungi. Hanya saja kemudahan ini belum dapat dinikmati oleh para pengguna yang menggunakan Opera dan Omniweb sebagai alat perambah (browser). Tapi dengan mengandalkan IE, Mozilla dan Safari sebagai mesin perambah utama, anda telah dapat menjangkau mayoritas dari pengguna internet saat ini. Jadi, feature ini walau dengan sejumlah keterbatasannya saya rasa patut dicoba. Jangan khawatir bagi para pengguna yang tidak dapat menikmati kemudahan ini, mereka masih dapat menggunakan kotak pencarian sebagaimana mestinya. :)

Setelah membaca beberapa artikel berikut yang ditulis oleh rekan-rekan blogger di Indonesia dan di luar negeri tentang Spam, akhirnya saya tergelitik juga untuk menulis sesuatu mengenai topik yang satu ini.

Artikel-artikel yang dimaksud adalah sebagai berikut:

Ibarat virus, worm, dan sejenisnya, spam sekarang juga telah menjadi momok bagi sebagian besar pengguna internet. Berawal dari kampanye marketing produk-produk komersial melalui pos yang kemudian beranjak merambah dunia maya yang sekarang kita sebut dengan internet. Spam melalui e-mail bisa dikatakan sudah terlalu biasa. Hampir setiap pengguna internet yang memiliki e-mail, pasti pernah menerima e-mail- e-mail yang berisikan spam, diminta atau tidak diminta. E-mail- e-mail yang demikian sering kita sebut juga dengan junk e-mails. Bisa dibayangkan betapa jengkelnya apabila suatu ketika kita membuka inbox e-mail, e-mail- e-mail yang masuk malah berasal dari pengirim yang tidak kita kenal dan kita harus menghapusnya satu per satu. Kalau satu dua e-mail masih lumayanlah, tapi bagaimana kalau e-mail yang masuk itu sampai puluhan bahkan ratusan? Wow!!! Apalagi bila di antara spam e-mail tersebut ada yang mengandung virus atau worm. Alamak, bisa pusing tujuh keliling kepala ini… ?!?

Working with WordPress: An Initial Start

The main work is already done. The migration process is finished. Thanks God that everything has gone just like what I expected. After all, the process was easy and very educative. I learned so many new things and found that WordPress is the right blogtool for me. But, it also took time. So, please hope that I’m not going to do it anymore. I don’t want to make my hands dirty again. :D

In this entry I will not go further to discuss which one is the best between MovableType and WordPress. You should better read this entry, written by Thomas. He explained quite well the main differences between these two blogtools. The choice is yours. IMHO, anything would be fine as long as the software could meet your needs and you enjoy using it. It’s just like picking right clothes to wear when you know where you are up to. Right?

Switching to WordPress: Freedom!

I have enough with MovableType! :( And I mean it seriously.
After experiencing some bad things that almost destroyed all configurations of my blog, I think I will not be using it anymore as a blogtool. The end of history. MovableType is just ‘too dangerous, fragile and complicated’ for me. As everybody knows, together with the release of version 3, MovableType comes with so many features and not to mention as well it happens to have some bugs which if you are not aware of them, it could damage your blog. Although on the other hand I must admit MovableType is really a good tool to work with. I don’t know, maybe it’s just my opinion. So, if you don’t agree with me for whatever reasons, please don’t flame me. OK? :)

Alright, as an alternative, I’ve already chosen WordPress. At the end, I finally join Mark and stands for his arguments about freedom O. Freedom O is the freedom to run the program for any purpose. That spirit I’m going to revive now with this action of mine.

The migration process is almost completed. I just need to repair and update some information and for the rest, it is ready to be visited publicly. More information about this migration process will be coming soon. I will open a new category as well to place all news about WordPress and its development.
